So…Let me ask you this:
If the car you wanted…Better yet, the car you felt you couldn’t survive without….if that car cost $67,000 and all you had in your account was $47,000 would you go to the dealership and try to beg the dealership to take a $20,000 hit so you could have the car?
Maybe….But, what if you could possibly LOSE an additional $5,000 (or more) of your $47,000 just by attempting it?
If you haven’t figured it out yet, that’s exactly what’s happening in Congress right now.
I’ve kept my mouth shut on this but I keep getting messages trying to prod me into this conversation. I really don’t know why people seem to want my input on this, but I’m just going to speak my piece and leave it go at that.
To remove the President from office, a two-thirds vote is required in Congress. That means it’s going to take 67 members to vote for removal. The Democrats occupy 47 seats. What are the odds they can pick up the additional 20 seats required to remove the president from office? Keep in mind that it’s an election year and the Republicans have nobody else waiting in the wings to start a presidential campaign with only 9 months til the election. It’s just simply not going to happen. The Republicans will never let that happen…President Trump could’ve re-routed the Ukraine money to a titty bar across the street from Trump Tower and the Republicans would find a way to justify the reallocation of that taxpayer money.
Now….the Democrats have a snowballs chance in hell of actually getting removal, but they’ve got a lot riding on this…hell, they’ve bet the whole farm and all the equipment on this move. Once the onion is peeled all the way back, if they look like they’re pissing in the wind in an attempt to get everyone else wet this will directly impact the reelection chances of Democrats in both the House and Senate.
Politically, this is not a good move for the Left in any way, shape or form. Truth be told this is a bad move for both parties. Over the last decade Congressional approval averages right around 25%….that means 75% of Americans disapprove of the job that’s being done by our elected representatives….and now you’ve got this circus going on. For you classic rock aficionados, I’ll quote Stealers Wheel: “Clowns to the Left of me, Jokers to the Right”…and here We the People are….stuck in the middle with Ukraine.
My mind works pretty much in a tactical disposition. Tactical: Carefully planned actions to achieve a specific goal. What the hell is the specific goal here? All I see when I turn the news on (regardless of network) is a seemingly endless parade of grown adults who have made a fortune off the American tax payer spewing an endless parade of insults at their counterparts with no reasonable, feasible or obtainable goal in sight.
New information seems to be trickling in daily. Where the hell were all these informants and documents when the impeachment hearings were under way? This is nuts. The Democrats SHOULD want this over quickly so their Presidential candidates can get back to the campaign trail….The Republicans should want to drag this out to keep those same Democratic candidates locked down in DC and unable to campaign effectively. But just the opposite is happening. The Left seemingly wants this to go on for the next six months knowing that the outcome is a foregone conclusion and the Right wants a quick end to it almost as if they’ve got something to hide.
Again…and I can’t get past this one simple question…what the hell is goal here? Republicans or Democrats….I can’t figure out what they’re trying to accomplish.
Opinions….that’s all any of us have. Opinions based on the information that is presented to us as facts, but is more often than not presumption, theory or innuendo.
SO….for those of you who asked and for anyone else who has bothered to read this far into my babble, here are my opinions:
The Right: I honestly believe these people are pissed off because they’re being forced to deal with this shit and just want it done and over with regardless of whether anything truly criminal happened or not. They’re pissed about they way they were told to go sit in the corner and play with their crayons during the House impeachment investigation and because of that they have a preconceived notion of the lack of evidence in this matter. Rightfully so? Not my place to say. But when they speak I always seem to feel like I’m listening to a fifth grader whine about the fact that they didn’t get thrown a pass in the football game at recess.
The Left: I think these idiots are in complete and total damage control mode. Not to say they’re more corrupt than any other party of politicians, but I think they know they pushed it too far and are on the verge of getting busted…and their only recourse is to sling mud as far and as fast as they can and make this mockery of justice last as long as they can to see if maybe they can get something to stick to the wall. It’s a game of 3-Card Monty…If they keep the cards moving fast enough and long enough you’ll lose track of the Ace.
All the Clowns and Jokers: Hey….it’s an election year…they’ve finally found a way to smear their adversaries in prime-time, seven nights a week on every network and on Page One in every form of print for FREE. Each party is talking shit about the other party and they don’t have to pay for the 30 second spot in the commercial breaks…Take That campaign finance laws. Perception seems to be all that matters when they get to the mic…proof and facts be damned…just like election-year commercials.
POTUS: Personally, I don’t think he’s done a damn thing that any other president hasn’t. We could go all the way back to Reagan and I could give you examples of offenses that were worse than what they’re accusing DJT of committing. But when you try to drain a swamp, you have to figure the swamp creatures will fight back. For some odd reason I get the impression he just watches the news coverage for comic relief…he knows the outcome has already been decided. What I’m waiting to see is if the House can maintain their numbers on the left through the election this fall. That’ll be interesting. Imagine that….Trump wins the White House again and the Left maintains control of the House….we’ll have history right there, folks…the first President to ever be impeached twice.
One thing bothers me though. This isn’t a Left or Right issue…this is more of an issue for We the People to consider. I really don’t think the President considers Joe Biden a political rival. Even if he wins the nomination, I don’t think DJT sees him as a serious contender. Hell, he beat Hillary….and comparatively, Joe’s the JV team. That’s not meant to be insulting…that’s just the way I see it, and I’d bet you that’s the way the President sees it as well. So, if you can….just take the “political rival” idea out of the equation. As a matter of fact, strip party affiliation away altogether from everyone involved. Now…when we’re down to the bare bones of it…wouldn’t you want your president to lever whatever he had at his disposal to get to the bottom of possible political corruption? I mean…strip the names, faces and political parties away…if what they think happened actually happened, our money….yours and mine….was essentially sent to Ukraine and laundered back to individuals here in the states. Personally, I don’t care who belonged to what party in that scenario…I don’t care what force was brought to bear to get the information needed to uncover that act…but I want the people who thought it was okay to STEAL from US brought to justice. Nothing pisses me off more than people stealing what we put our blood, sweat and tears into earning and then surrender in good faith with the expectation of that money going to strengthen this nation. Hell, I’d waterboard the Pope for information on someone who’d do that to us.
Yeah…US…you, me, we….Us. For everyone who asked for my opinion on this impeachment trial debacle…here it is: We need to get back to being US….we need to start seeing ourselves as We the People again. Not Left or Right….Republican or Democrat…Not CNN or FOX…Because when you strip the demographics away and see all the clowns and jokers as Americans instead of seeing their party affiliation, you’ll start to see how embarrassing this is. If you can get to that point…if you can start looking at everyone as simply part of Us…I guarantee it’s going to piss you off.
Trying to make some sense of it all,
But I can see that it makes no sense at all,
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor,
‘Cause I don’t think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.
